Beyonce lost weight with the Master Cleanse diet program.

Three years ago Beyonce told Oprah that she started on using the Master Cleanse Diet in order to help her shed a bit of weight. Is this really a smart way to lose weight?

The Master Cleanse is a liquid diet – the purpose is to cleanse and detoxify the body while reportedly stimulating healthy tissue growth. The Master Cleanse Program includes e.g.: drinking salt water in the morning, a concoction of lemon juice, cayenne and maple syrup throughout the day, and at the end of the day shopping off with laxative tea at night. It may be a diet and an effective method to lose weight. But another more important colon & colonic related question should be: Are detox diets healthy?

Katherine McManus, director of nutrition at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston recently did a study comparing a variety of weight loss & detox diets.

Katherine McManus (registered dietitian) says

“I have not seen any science that substantiates the health claims made by proponents of detox diets. These detox cleansing diets are a very limited, short-term fix, and the research shows that the weight loss cannot be sustained.”
